About UsTanglewood is a riding school with a difference. We are a small and friendly school that offers good quality instruction with trained instructors in reasonably sized groups. The emphasis is on having fun in a safe environment. The maximum group size for children is 7 and for adults we prefer to keep it to 4 people. We do not have nose-to-tail groups of 8 ponies in one lesson where no one gets any individual attention from the instructor.
We offer instruction in flatwork, showjumping, an introduction to cross country as well as lunge lessons and in-hand work. Sally Thompson has owned and taught at Tanglewood for 21 years and is happy to teach all levels of ability. She is a BHSAI(IT) with 30 years teaching and competition experience who specialises in training people to compete in BSJA showjumping. Sally is continuing her training with Mario de Mendoca.
There is a wide range of horses and ponies to suit all abilities from the very nervous to the more experienced.
Throughout the year, a wide range of activities are offered to suit riders of all ages and abilities including own-a-pony day, kidz club, dressage competitions and pony weeks and much more. For further information please see our Activities page.
We offer a part and working livery service, please see our Livery page for more details.
We do a small amount of hacking for existing clients. We are not a trekking centre.
